Alar Ecology has invested in a state-of-the-art thermal imaging camera, the FLIR Scion OTM266. This will be used primarily for bat surveys but will have other uses too.

Alar Ecology is now trained and equipped to provide environmental DNA (eDNA) testing of ponds and other waterbodies to detect the presence of Great Crested Newts.

For the last three years, Lucy Bartlett has been working on a project to test the effectiveness of box traps, or more specifically the Dewsbury Box Trap, to survey for and capture great crested newts.
