2021 has been another exciting and successful year for Alar Ecology with a number of new, high profile organisations being added to our growing client list.

Our workload has been dominated, as usual, by protected species surveys and reports. But we have also been writing biodiversity action plans, providing LPA planning caseload support, carrying out wintering bird surveys, submitting mitigation license applications and hiring out equipment.

Project sites have included private residences, churches, schools, farms, listed buildings, hospitals, quarries, commercial premises, factories and ports.

The year has seen a significant investment in new technology and we are now using thermal imaging cameras across a number of applications. And in 2022, we will be looking at how drone technology might be used to support existing services as well as opening up new opportunities.

An occupied Barn Owl nest viewed through a thermal imaging camera. Three owlets were ringed under a Schedule 1 Licence.

We have been working closely with a network of trusted associates and subconsultants to provide a range of services across southern England. The future is looking good; we are already scheduling next year’s projects and look forward to working with new and existing clients.
