Alar Ecology goes thermal!

Alar Ecology has invested in a state-of-the-art thermal imaging camera, the FLIR Scion OTM 266. This will be used primarily for bat surveys but will (we hope) have other uses too.

More details to follow soon.

The camera will be available to rent at competitive rates, subject to a Hire Agreement. Please email for more details.

UPDATE/REVIEW: Unfortunately this unit turned out to be hugely disappointing and has been returned to the supplier.

We are now looking at alternative makes/models. No doubt the Scion works for other people, but it is far too glitchy for our purposes. Some of the problems we experienced (and which the supplier was unable to resolve) were:

  • Turning the unit on (!)
  • Getting it to recognise an SD card
  • Freezing while in video mode
